Basic Healing Clay Mask

Basic Mask:

Mix clay with water until it is a paste consistency. (Do not use any metal objects when mixing or storing healing clay.)

After you have your mud/paste, then smear it on the area that you are targeting and let it sit for 20 minutes.
You will feel the clay hardening and pulling the toxins out. Afterwards, rinse off and apply moisturizer.

Oats and Tea Tree Mask

Combine the bentonite clay and oats in a small bowl. (Please do not use a metal utensil or bowl when working with bentonite clay.)
Add in enough water to make a spreadable paste. Add 4 drops of tea tree oil and stir. Apply to the face for 10-15 minutes.
To remove the mask, wash your face with warm water and a washcloth.

Soothing Yogurt Mask

Combine the bentonite clay, honey and yogurt. (Please do not use a metal utensil or bowl when working with bentonite clay.)
Apply to the face for 10-15 minutes.  To remove the mask, wash your face with warm water and a washcloth.

Green Tea Body Mask

Mix ingredients together in a bowl or jar. (Do not use any metal objects when mixing.)
Apply to skin. Allow to dry for 30 minutes and then rinse off in the shower.

Foot Soak

Mix ingredients together in a bowl or shallow tub (big enough for your feet).
You can soak your feet in this mixture for 30 minutes or apply directly to your feet especially your toes.
Rinse well in warm water.

Lavender Bath Soak

Begin to fill the bath tub with warm water. Mix in ingredients. (Do not use anything metal to mix.)
Soak in the bathtub for up to 20 minutes. The water may actually change color slightly due to the toxins it pulls out of your body.

Natural Deodorant

Melt the beeswax and coconut oil on very low heat, whisking often.
Once melted, add in the shea butter and whisk a few times, then remove from the heat and continue melting.
After that’s melted and you have a liquid, sprinkle in the clay and continue to whisk well until everything is combined.
Drop in the essential oil, whisking still. Place the pan into a cool water bath, and leave for 5 minutes or until it just begins to set up.
Spoon the mixture into your deodorant container and place it in the freezer for 20-30 minutes (or until completely hard).
If, for some reason, it starts to get too soft on a hot day, just put it back in the freezer for a while.

Bentonite Clay Toothpaste

To Make:

  1. Mix the ingredients in a bowl or pint size mason jar and store in a small glass jar with a lid. We actually have a separate small glass jar for each family member since we dip our toothbrushes in it. Mix with a spoon or shake to incorporate ingredients. This recipe makes about ¾ cup of tooth powder which lasts us for months. You can adjust the recipe up or down (Use teaspoons instead of tablespoons for smaller amounts).
  2. This will last indefinitely on the counter since there are no liquid ingredients and all of the ingredients naturally discourage bacterial growth. You can customize the powder to your taste and all of the herbal ingredients are optional. Bentonite or baking soda would actually work alone or together as a tooth powder, this one just tastes great. You could also add more cloves, mint and cinnamon for an even more concentrated powder. This type of cinnamon has a higher concentration of beneficial oils and tastes sweeter.

To Use:
Wet the toothbrush and dip into the powder. Brush teeth until clean. Rinse with cool water. Can be used daily (or multiple times daily) and is fine for adults and kids.

Apple Cider Vinegar Clay Mask

Clears skin and helps fight acne

Beeswax Sunscreen

  1. Combine ingredients except zinc oxide in a pint sized or larger glass jar. I have a mason jar that I keep just for making lotions and lotion bars, or you can even reuse a glass jar from pickles, olives, or other foods.
  2. Fill a medium saucepan with a couple inches of water and place over medium heat.
  3. Put a lid on the jar loosely and place in the pan with the water.
  4. As the water heats, the ingredients in the jar will start to melt. Shake or stir occasionally to incorporate. When all ingredients are completely melted, add the zinc oxide, stir in well and pour into whatever jar or tin you will use for storage. Small mason jars (pint size) are great for this. It will not pump well in a lotion pump!
  5. Stir a few times as it cools to make sure zinc oxide is incorporated.
  6. Use as you would regular sunscreen. Best if used within six months.

Cover the irritated area generously with the mixture, and then wrap a piece of clean gauze or light, thin, cotton around it to keep it covered. Let it dry for 3-4 hours and then rinse off with warm water, reapplying if needed. It's normal for your skin to feel a little tight as it dries.

Indian Healing Clay Calamine Lotion

Combine all ingredients in a small bowl and whisk until smooth. Cover and store in the refrigerator for 1-2 weeks.

(Calamine lotion helps relieve pain and itching from poison ivy, poison oak, poison sumac, sunburns, rashes, and insect bites. It also helps dry oozing and weeping caused from ivy, oak, and sumac poisons.)

  • Completely  melt the first five ingredients, stirring occasionally with your whisk.
  • Remove from heat and allow time to cool a bit (a few minutes…and wipe excess moisture off the outside of your bowl, too).
  • Place your bowl back on the scale, hit tare, and add in spoonfuls of zinc oxide until you get to .5oz. This gives you approximately a 20 SPF coverage
  • Whisk to completely combine.
  • Add 1/8t cinnamon; whisk to combine.
  • Add cocoa powder a little at a time and whisk to get to the color you need…
    • 1/2T cocoa powder is a light foundation
    • 1/2T plus 1t is a medium foundation
    • 1/2T plus 2t is a medium-dark foundation
    • Simply start with 1/2T of cocoa powder, whisk to combine, check on your wrist for a color match, and add more cocoa powder (1/2t at a time) until you reach your perfect color
  • Pour into your selected container and allow to cool. (You can use small mason jars, tins, or travel size containers usually used for shampoo/conditioner.)

  • Place glass bowl over pot of shallow, slightly simmering H2O. Melt ingredients completely (stir with a whisk to help it along).
  • Carefully remove from stove and wipe down condensation on bowl (you do not want H2O getting into your product).
  • Place bowl on scale, hit tare.
  • Add zinc oxide…slowly…until you get to 40g.
  • Whisk and then carefully pour into container of your choice. (Allow to sit for 5 minutes to set properly.)

  2. Spoon a generous amount of mixture (more than necessary) into 1/2 of a bath-ball mold. Pack firmly. Repeat, packing mixture into second half of mold. Press pieces together until they connect. Remove top half of mold very carefully. Let bath ball stand, mold side down, overnight (set ball on an overturned jar lid to keep it from tipping over). (If you don't have a mold, you can use an ice mold tray or plastic Easter eggs.)

  3. Remove mold carefully. Invert, and let ball dry completely, 2 to 3 days more. Transfer to jars.If they fall apart or crumble too easily, they’re likely not being packed hard enough in the molds. It could also be that there’s not enough water.
